Also it's nice to hear someone saying it like it is about all the modern bells and whistles that we're told we just can't live without. Simpler is better in most cases. I mean do we really need drive by wire engine throttle control? What is more reliable than a throttle cable just to mention one off the top of my head...

Love this version of the Suburban. After 96, the 5.7 got the upgrade to 250 horsepower. I had a 97 that was one of the cheapest to maintain vehicles I have ever had. Then I had a 99 that was also a great ride. They were not the high mileage champs but if driven reasonably, they could get 15 mpg running around a 17-18 on the highway. A lot of space inside and a quiet smooth ride. Still my favorite!

I used to have a 1998 GMC Yukon and loved it. But it wasn’t meant to be. A year later, about a month or 2 ago, I saw this video and thought “damn this sucks”. Today I just bought a 1997 Chevy Suburban with 91,500 miles and it’s MINT, literally showroom worthy. But no, it will be daily driven, and treated and maintained like a goddess all the while, sparing no expense

Simple thing Hoovie I’m a cyclist and for years I argued “why have racing bikes got stupidly small tyres like 23mm (0.9 inch) and no room for mudguards.Older bikes had room for both”. Now racing bikes have room for 25mm (0.99 inch) or even 28mm (1.1 inch) tyres. Some folk buy carbon bars and stem to give a more comfortable ride. WHY? Fit bigger tyres because AIR IS FREE!!!!. You don’t need hydromagnetic or air ride suspensions, just fit smaller wheels with a tyre with more volume and you’ll get a magic carpet ride.

My favourite body style, since I first seen them Like a Rock commercials. I’ve only owned 1 GMT400 Suburban, a 1999, currently under repairs for a misfire issue.
I have owned roughly 10/11 of these OBS pickups over the last couple of years. Not counting the ones that were too far gone and simply pulled for parts and crushed.
I still currently own 6 obs pickups, at the time of posting, that number is always changing.

I have a ‘94. Looks the same as this only it is red and white with a grey interior. Grandparents bought it for me 8 years ago or so to drive to school in. Had 54,xxx mi on it then. It is an awesome vehicle. Great 4x4 and you can camp out of the back. Awesome for hauling people, kayaks, and paddle boards. The fuel pump went out when it was -25°F so I need to get that fixed this summer. Gas mileage sucks so it’s not my daily driver anymore. It’s also super safe. I’ve been rear ended in it twice and also hit a deer going 60. My sisters slid off an icy mountain road and high centered it on a rock, but it only tore off one of the fender/running board, so hopefully I can find a junk yard with one.

It's perfect for Kansans like me who abhor the interstate and just love highway cruising. Glad to see you've got one in your garage, take care of it, and it'll take care of you...mostly. I got my first GMT400 Suburban about 15 years ago. I'm onto my third now. As much as I love these trucks the 4L60 in the 1500s is just too failure-prone. I had to rebuild the transmission in my original '96 4 times. So when the transmission in my '98 went out a couple months ago I just decided to get something a bit more durable, a '95 with a 4L80E. But if anyone wants a cheap 1998 1500 with a mild body lift and conversion van package that needs a transmission rebuild there's on in my driveway for the time being.

I had a 1998 GMC Yukon for a while but it hadn’t been taken care of before my ownership and was a lost cause. Trans, rear end, front end, everything was bad. But I told myself eventually I’d get another in better condition but...I’m not paying $8,000 for one! I’m a 23 year old kid with other priorities and I’m tired of wasting money on cars like a mundane Corolla, it’s depressing as a car enthusiast and that being nearly my only passion. But now I can’t even get a half decent reliable and comfy V8 cruiser of a truck in Texas for a half decent acceptable price. This is stupid. It’s not some classic muscle car and it hearts the heart to see it shooting in price out of the blue at an alarming rate

I just bought one 6 months ago for $1500. It needed a few small repairs, but just turned 280,000 miles. All the parts to build one can be found easy and affordably at Autozone, O'Riley, and Ebay. $12 door handles, $25 lift torsion lift. Common 6x5.5 wheels. Tons of room inside to fit people, camping gear, hell, I don't even bother sleeping in a tent. I tossed in an old mattress in the back! It's a 4 wheel drive motorhome! LOL and gets about the same gas mileage! Mine gets 8 to 10mpg! Over $20 a day in fuel! Gas is $4.50 a gallon in Seattle at this time.
And I would say $1500 was a good deal, and was cheap, but I discovered Summit/Jegs/edlebrock/ and pretty much figured out how to drain my 401k! On a 25 year old truck! Haha

Did some minor maintenance, MAF, Shocks, AT tires, oil cooler lines, and it runs like it's brand new at 160k miles. Best part is the 42 gallon tank that gets me close to a 600 mile range. Makes a great mountain adventure vehicle for trips to the snow and wilderness camping, can sleep right in the back with the seats down.Only downside is the MPGs. I may have to garage it after seeing this video though.

The prices on all of these GMT400 GM trucks and SUVs are getting insane. Several people in one Facebook group were selling theirs for $12-16k. And they were just basic 5.7L standard cab pickups. Not the 454SS. One guy claimed to have spent $28k on one with like 15k miles on it. Where I live, the prices haven't gotten so bad, but it won't be long before people get wind of how much money they're going for down south and the prices skyrocket here for rusty old heaps.
The "weird" gauges you're referring to are called "Moonies" in GMT400 fan circles. They were done away with in very late 1991. I had a 1990 with them, a friend had a 1991 with them, and now my son has an 89 with them.
Ah, the power of a TBI 5.7L. They were slow, but they'd run forever, and were stupid simple. One frigid winter day several years ago, my wife's newer car refused to start, but that old 1990 C1500 I had fired right up. My wife was mad that her car didn't start, but my old truck did. I told her "Your car is smart. It took one look at how cold it is and said 'NOPE'. My old truck is like an old hound dog. Loyal, but dumb as a stump. I hit the key and it said 'Oh, you wanna go somewhere? Alright, let's go!'".
